The Butt and Oyster, Pin Mill IP9 1JW 01473 780764 about 2 ½ miles by road. 1 hour's walk across fields and along the riverbank. Situated on the river's edge - wonderful relaxed, nautical, casual, pubby atmosphere. Food served 12 noon - last orders at 9.15pm every day of the week. You can eat outside in the summer. But whilst it is lovely it is very popular.
Car Parking is available behind the pub or in Pay and Display car park as you approach Pin Mill.
The Red Lion, Chelmondiston IP9 1DX 01473 780400 A pub/restaurant serving good food in attractive surroundings. Their aim is to provide affordable, good food. The emphasis is on flavour and quality of ingredients.They have a very simple ambition in the kitchen and that is to make their food taste as good as is possible. Closed on Sundays and Mondays.
The Riverside, at Woolverstone Marina IP9 1AS 01473 780803 about 3 miles by road. Proceed on B 1456 for Ipswich, pass through Chelmondiston and in Woolverstone take the turning right for the Royal Harwich Yacht Club. Turn left at the bottom and proceed for Woolverstone Marina office and it is adjacent on the water's edge with views up to the Orwell Bridge. Don't be put off by the uninspiring décor (tiffany lamps) the food is good and the setting with its views up river towards the Orwell Bridge in the distance is lovely.

The Shipwreck at Shotley Marina IP9 1QJ 01473 788865 Open for food 7 days a week from 10am - 2.30pm and 6 - 9 pm. Wonderful views across the estuary to Felixstowe and Harwich. Good value pub food in a contemporary setting. 45 mins brisk walk.

Child friendly traditional pub with children's play area. Take B1456 back towards Ipswich and turn left at the Freston water tower. Carry on for Holbrook and the pub is on the right hand side . All meals freshly cooked. No smoking throughout. Excellent all round value for money but a little further to travel. Meals Wednesday - Monday (closed Tues evening) 12 noon - 2.15 pm (last orders) and 6pm - 9.15 (last orders).

Mistley (literally adjacent to Manningtree) The Thorn 01206 392821 on the Bradfield Road pass the old maltings on your left and The Thorn is on the right as you proceed up the hill. Easy car parking on the left opposite. New Chef doing great things and has been awarded the Bib Gourmand which identifies restaurants that provide good food at moderate prices.
Harwich - The Pier Restaurant A nice trip is to take the Shotley-Harwich Foot Ferry which runs, weather permitting, Easter to end of September. The Samuel Pepys restaurant (around the corner, so no river view) provides excellent value and is where the locals eat.
Kesgrave Hall Hotel & Restaurant It is a magnificent building with fine food but you can still get fish and chips and mushy peas quite reasonably.
The Last Anchor 01473 214763 is on the river/dockside in Ipswich. Ask to sit in the Conservatory.
Bistro on the Quay 01473 286677 is on the river/dockside in Ipswich. Does an excellent 3 course special menu on weekdays for about £13 - but please check when booking as prices may vary.

Orwell Cars serves Shotley and surrounding area. 07887 877300 Can organise local pick-ups and drop offs with more than 6 hours notice but can only carry 4 people at any time. Long hauls and airport trips.
